Ecology Field Trip to Castor River Shut-Ins was a BLAST!
Mrs. Randecker's Ecology class went on an amazing field trip May 5th to study the flora and fauna of Castor River Shut-Ins. We found many of the spring ephemerals we have been studying along the trail and stopped to do a Field Study of the igneous glades there. After lunch, we did a quick Stream Study to judge the quality of the water and its Biodiversity.

Exciting news!
Woodland high school students will be participating in a new Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) in the fall of 2021. Using products supplied by Nutri-Plot, students are planning to conduct a real life experiment aimed at determining the efficacy of the fertilizer/attractant using control and experimental food plots on the Woodland campus farm.
Take a look at the study’s abstract!
Abstract: A study will be conducted to determine whether the commercially available product Nutri-Plot has efficacy for increased production on food plots on the Woodland Farm. Two equal sized plots will be selected for sunlight, pH, and soil moisture consistency. Soil sampling will occur in equal lateral transects. The plots will be disked and tilled before equal food plots containing clover, turnips and mixed brassicas are planted on each. One plot (control) will receive no treatment. The second plot (experimental) will receive treatments of Nutri-Plot within the label recommendations. Plots will be monitored for food plot vigor. Vigor will be determined by color, robustness, number of plants per square foot and height. Wildlife attractiveness will be monitored by game cameras set at identical angles to each plot and frequency of fresh wildlife tracks/scat. Statistical analysis will be performed on each vigor and wildlife attractiveness parameter. All data will be presented at the FFA CDE competition in the spring of 2022.
Reminder!
HS Athletic Banquet will be held on May 11th at 6:00 pm in the High School Gym. There will be (4) tickets allowed per athlete and due to COVID issues unfortunately we will not be having a meal this year.
